Giclee Prints are digital copies of original artwork made using high resolution files. Using the latest pigmented ink sets and archival papers for maximum image permanence, the process pushes the leading edge of digital printmaking resulting in an unparalleled color density, saturation, and brilliance. Done well, Giclee prints are hard to distinguish from original artworks.
The process begins by photographing the original artwork, resulting in a 4"x5" transparency. Careful attention is paid to balancing light, accurate color reproduction, sharpness and other factors critical to production of an excellent likeness to the original piece. The transparency is then scanned and a high resolution file is created. Additional corrections and an image cleaning are done.
I am offering the following limited edition Giclee prints from my portfolio using archival inks and canvas paper. I personally oversee the print quality and color control to insure a superior finished piece and then attach it to premium quality 1¼ inch stretcher bars, suitable for hanging with or without a frame. The print wraps around the edges. Each piece is signed and numbered by me and released with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Hand colored linoleum cuts (linoleum block prints) are a type of relief print. To create a linoleum block print, a design is sketched on to the surface of a thin layer of linoleum mounted on wood. Areas that are to be white (paper) or later hand-colored are cut away with gouges, the portions of the design that will print as black are left untouched. When the cutting is complete, a thin layer of an oil-based ink is rolled onto the block, inking only the areas that have not been carved away. A sheet of paper is placed on the block and then the artist applies firm and consistently patterned pressure to the surface using a baren, wooden spoon or like object. The ink transfers to the paper, creating an exact - though reversed - copy. Inking and printing is repeated for each print. The number of prints is limited to ensure quality. When the ink has dried, each print is hand colored using qouache or watercolor. Because these editions are printed by hand and are individually colored, there are slight variations between prints.
